NATIONAL DRESSAGE CHAMPS

Back to Aspen Grove Dressage News & Events.

17th September 2007

What a Show. We achieved great success this weekend and all the horses out did themselves.

Firstly, I would like to thank my owners for all their support throughout the year. Without them, none of this would be possible.

Mrs Ann Newton

Mrs Margaret Baxter

Miss Linda Baxter

The Bell Family

Thank you.

Dior competed in the Elementary and Medium Classes. This is the first Championship I have ridden him at and he coped with the atmosphere and pressure really well. In the Elementary he finished 3rd, he did a great test and I couldn't have asked for more from him. In the Medium he was a star, I was stupid! I went the wrong way at C, Can you believe it, 2 options, left or right and I take the wrong one. He still finished up with 69.4% which shows how well the rest of the test went. He placed 8th, I was so pleased for him.

Nurejev competed in the Inter II. This is his first trip back to the Nationals after a 2 year break from competing. He has had a great year, slowly growing in confidence. He went into that arena like he owned the place. He felt great. It is the best test he has done so far and finished 2nd, only beaten by .08%.

It was great to have him back.

Ramazzottie competed in the PSG, Inter I and Inter I Kur. In the PSG he tried his heart out as he always does. He finished a great 4th place. In the Inter I, nerves seemed to affect him slightly, so a little tension crept into the work. He will never let you down though and always keeps going. He finished in 7th place, which shows the quality this horse has to offer. This also qualified him for the music on the Saturday. He seemed to come out and enjoy this test, he did his best work all weekend in this class and finished up in 5th place.

Sandman competed in the same classes. This time last year he was on box rest and has come back with amazing results all year. At the Nationals he continued with his great form. In both the PSG and Inter I he flew, he was amazing to ride. He took both the Championships with scores of over 73% in the PSG and over 74% in the Inter I. He couldn't have gone better. In the Music he was flying until we came to the first canter Pirouette, he got himself too closed from behind and got stuck and reared out. This mistake was expensive as Pirouettes have a double score. He received 1's and 2's for that movement. It lost him the class but with the rest of the test going so well he still finished 3rd.

It was an amazing show. great weather, great horses and great results.
