HICKSTEAD CDI PART II

Back to Aspen Grove Dressage News & Events.

30th July 2007

Hickstead continued with great success. The horses all year have been going so well.

Sandman in the Inter I, finished a hard fought 2nd to Stephanie Peters of Holland. We were beaten by .2%. This was Sandman's 2nd Inter I, he is still a little green in some of the movements but always tries so hard.

On the Saturday it was Freestyle Day. This is the first time I have ridden a freestyle on Sandman, we were late getting the music together so didn't have time to practice the test.

He performed a great test, the music fitted really well, he finished on 74% and won his 3rd International Title.

On Sunday it was Duvie's turn again, he won the Semi final on the Wednesday and has been working very well all week.

Young Horses can take you by surprise! Thinking he might be tired from being at the show all week I thought I would work him in nice and easy and build up just before the test.

WELL. He nearly bucked me of in the working in as I went into canter. Not as tired as I thought.

The test took place in the international arena, He was quite tense in the arena. He held it all together in the trot and walk work but in the canter the tension showed through.

We have to ride 4 flying changes in this test and Duvie is still green in these, so with the tension we made a few mistakes, only achieving the last change.

Even though he was nervous he has such a great character that he really tried for me. Unfortunately with the mistakes we lost a few placings and finished 5th.

It was a great show and we hope to take this success through to the Nationals.
