Gareth Hughes has been selected to coach the British team at the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF), which takes place at Sydney Olympic Park in Australia from 14-18 January.
2000 Youth Athletes from around the world compete in many Sports. 130 Athletes from Great Britain will be competing. Equestrian has been put in for the first time.
The Festival is set up to run just like an Olympics, opening and closing ceremony's, medals and world class competition.
3 young riders from Great Britain have been selected to compete in the Dressage competition and 4 in the Jumping competition, all on borrowed horses.
Gareth comments "For me it will be an exciting experience and an honour to take these young riders, that will compete on the world stage at such a big festival. We have high expectations, but until we see which horses we have drawn, we won't really know where we stand.
The riders will have 3 training sessions to get to know their horses before competing. My job will be to guide them to the best way to get them through a test, as the time is so limited we won't be training or re-training the horses.
Not only will it be a fantastic experience it will also be HOT!
A nice way to spend the beginning of January."
